A Brief History

Nilco Inc. was founded in the year 2000, when Mr.Hans Raj Gulati and his son Pradeep Gulati came to the United States from India to take their
family business and passion of distributing high quality imitation leathers to the next level and went global. Through the years Nilco established strong relationships with distributors and manufacturers throughout the United States and Canada to become a trusted supplier of these products to the North American market. In 2007, Nilco welcomed it’s third generation to the company when Pradeep’s son Tushar Gulati joined the business. Like any business, Nilco faced different challenges through the years from the recession in 2008 or the Pandemic in 2020; however, the company demonstrated remarkable fortitude and emerged stronger.
From the outset Nilco had a very friendly and special relationship with one of their local distributors, Sommers Plastics Products Co., who was also located in New Jersey.

Sommers Plastics was founded in 1947 by Walter Sommers. His former colleague, Herman Schecter, was hired as a partner to assist with shipping, receiving, billing, and bookkeeping. The business continued to grow, and in July 1948, Sommers sold the company to Schecter as he accepted a new role. Throughout the 1950s, Sommers Plastics began to introduce and trademark innovative products such as Roller Patent and Marshmallow. These imitations took the industry by storm and remain popular to this day. Today, Herman's sons, Fred and Ed, have also moved on to their next chapter and are enjoying life spending time with family and being active. In 2023, Nilco Inc. acquired Sommers Plastic Products Co. This was a joint effort from both sides as everyone saw exceptionally similar values in both the family owned companies.

This acquisition marked the beginning of Nilco Sommers Inc. We are now able to offer all the different products that both the companies offered, collaboratively under one brand. Our dedication to our customers and their satisfaction remains the same as we continue to provide quality products and exceptional service.
